Cancelled: PGK monthly meeting

wo 18-03, 17:0019:00

In view of recent developments around the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel the PGK lecture of Wednesday 18 March. This is in line with advice issued by the Dutch authorities and the measures currently enforced by our respective companies and institutions.

We aim to reschedule the lecture by Kike Beintema to one of our regular lecture slots later this year. Also note that Kike will give a presentation on the development of Q10 at the SPE Netherlands section on Monday 20 April.

Our guest speaker will be Kike Beintema (Tulip) and she will give a talk about: “Q10 field exploration and development”.

Program:
17:00-18:00 hrs: Social hour
18:00-19:00 hrs: Lecture

Abstract: The Southern North Sea has been extensively explored, and many oil and gas fields were successfully developed over the past decades. Exploration has been very successful in some areas and less so in others. The central Q-blocks have a number of dry wells from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s and has since then the area has been largely ignored by E&P operators. Tulip Oil has demonstrated that with diligent data mining, data reprocessing and new data acquisition, the area can be successfully unlocked. The Q10-A gas field was re-discovered in 2015 and brought on stream in 2019. This was made possible by a combination of a better understanding of the geology and hydrocarbon plays, a study of historical ‘dry’ wells, new drilling and stimulation techniques, and a low-cost approach. Near-field exploration is currently ongoing, based on new 2D seismic data acquired in 2018 and 1800km2 of 3D seismic reprocessed in 2019. New discoveries can be tied back at low cost to the Q10-A hub. The North Sea is not a dead hydrocarbon province and we should not stop exploring; the Netherlands needs its domestic natural gas production to bridge the energy gap during the transition and limit gas import requirements in the coming years
