wo 17-10, 17:00–19:00Gratis
Our guest will be Harald de Haan (Neptune) and he will give a talk about: “The Ziegle prospect; exploration in the Dutch L10-block after more than 40 years of production“.
Program: 17:00-18:00 hrs: Social hour
18:00-19:00 hrs: Lecture
After the first discovery and production startup over 40 years ago, exploration success in the Dutch offshore L10 block has been high, especially since 3D seismic data became available. The position of the block in the middle of the Rotliegend gas play with an excellent Zechstein top seal is very favourable for gas to accumulate in the extensional tilted fault blocks. Hydrocarbon generation up to recent times has enabled a fill-and-spill type of configuration resulting in present-day structures that are filled to spill.
In this setting an a-typical Rotliegend structure was drilled by the 39th exploration well in L10 targeting a compressional pop-up feature named Ziegler in a deeper part of the block. This prospect, lying directly Southwest of the first producing gas field (L10-A) in L10, was drilled from an existing platform after abandoning the L10-A8 well and subsequent slot recovery. The well path intersected a major salt dome drilling over 3500 m of evaporites avoiding hazards like squeezing salts and “stringers” in the salt.
Drilling of the well went smoothly. The result of the well has some surprises and does not exactly fit our general understanding of the hydrocarbon play in this area.
