Het julinummer van het Netherlands Journal of Geosciences is een themanummer over de Maasvallei.
Met de speciale editie wordt het belang van de samenwerking tussen verschillende wetenschappelijke disciplines benadrukt; in het bijzonder de samenwerking tussen de aardwetenschappen en de archeologie. De artikelen behandelen een grote diversiteit aan onderwerpen, van de langetermijnrelatie tussen landschap, klimaat en vegetatie tot beleid en ruimtelijke planning.
De editie bevat artikelen die gepresenteerd werden tijdens de conferentie “The Meuse valley: 15,000 years of (a)biotic landscape development and human impact”. Deze conferentie vond op 9 en 10 oktober 2014 plaats in Kasteel de Berckt in Baarlo (Limburg), in het kader van de jaarlijkse Palynologendagen van de Palynologische Kring van het KNGMG.
